In the fall of 2023, Jessie received the kind of news that shatters the ordinary: a diagnosis of Stage 3b ER+ Breast cancer, by the time it was discovered, the cancer had already spread to her lymph nodes.
Since then, Jessie has been courageously fighting for her life. Over the past two years, her battle has taken her far from home. She has pursued treatments both out of state and out of the country. She’s undergone surgery, integrative low-dose chemotherapy, repurposed medications, and a host of alternative and supportive therapies. In the summer of 2024, Jessie’s body was pushed to the brink. She was hospitalized with life-threatening sepsis and nearly didn’t make it. And yet, by God’s grace, she’s still here.
The fight continues, day by day, though it seems to be that she is on the other side of the fight. Oct 2026 brought about a clear scan and Jan 2026 her CTCs are almost at zero, a HUGE win for her against this disease. It’s been a rollercoaster filled with hope, setbacks, progress, and perseverance. All the while life just keeps happening raising and homeschooling our 6 kids..
Danny (who had worked as a UX Designer), was laid off a the same time Jessie was about to undergo surgery. Despite months of applications and interviews, doors didn’t open. So earlier this year, Danny felt the Lord calling him back to his roots.. creating art. He now works full-time as a fine artist, painting landscapes inspired by their journey, the peace that only Jesus can provide, the wonder of creation, and the presence of a loving and faithful God. Through this, he’s trying to support his family and provide stability while continuing to search for additional work. You can see his art at DannyVasquezFineArt.com.
Our story is one of FAITH under fire. and the constant grace of loving Savior. It’s a story of holding onto hope, even when the road ahead is uncertain, trusting in a faithful God who is good even we don't yet having the priviledge of seeing the full picture.
Update: We have officially launched our new family business, The Unordinary Co. It all started 2 years ago after Jessie's time in chemotherapy. Chemo is incredibly hard on the body and it took Jessie from a 43 yr old to what felt like a woman in her 90s. Her skin was dry, inflamed, irritated and she needed something to help. BEEF TALLOW was a skin saver for her and we decided we wanted to share all the benefits of tallow based products with any and everyone! So we launched The Unordinary Company in hopes to share our love of people, art, family and most of all Jesus. We offer a variety of tallow products, apparel, household goods, art and more.
